What is ADHD?

ADHD is a chronic condition marked by persistent inattention, hyperactivity, and sometimes impulsivity. It begins in childhood and often lasts into adulthood. Children with ADHD often have trouble functioning at home and in school and can have difficulty making and keeping friends, which can lead to stress and anxiety. Our therapists at Wellspring can provide strategies and support to help your family manage ADHD symptoms, so that it doesn’t interfere with school and work, as well as with social and emotional development.

ADHD Treatment

All children are sometimes restless, sometimes act without thinking, sometimes daydream the time away. When the child’s hyperactivity, distractibility, poor concentration, or impulsivity begin to affect performance in school or social relationships with other children, Wellspring therapists can help your family identify the best treatment plan to support your child. The impulsive child who acts before thinking may be considered just a “discipline problem,” while the child who is passive or sluggish may be viewed as merely unmotivated. Yet both may have different types of ADHD. This is especially true when inattentiveness is the primary symptom. Wellspring clinicians can help to empower your child in school and in life so she can advocate for herself – at school, with peers and in life.

In addition to providing individual and family psychotherapy services, we are also available to consult with individuals experiencing learning or attention problems, and also assess the individual in their particular school setting, in order to help employ compensatory strategies that can enhance academic performance and social skills development.
